What is an AdBlue tank and what is it used for?

The AdBlue tank is an essential component for modern diesel vehicles equipped with SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) technology. It containsAdBlue, a colourless and odourless solution composed of 32.5% high-purity urea and 67.5% demineralised water, used to reduce nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions.

During operation, AdBlue is injected into the exhaust system, where it is converted into ammonia. This reacts with NOx, converting it into harmless substances such as nitrogen (N₂) and water vapour (H₂O), helping to make the vehicle more environmentally friendly.

Where is the AdBlue tank located?

It is usually located near the fuel tank and is easily recognisable thanks to its blue cap. Maintaining the correct additive level is essential: if the tank is empty, the engine may not start.
